Day 25- Homer

July 6

Heritage RV Park

Today was a great day to sleep in for a bit.  Summer made me a breakfast of toast with jelly. which was very good.

It had rained overnight and it continued through the day.  Because of the weather today was a good day to deep clean the camper.  All the girls worked on that while I went over to Patrick's shop to change the oil in the truck.  It was overdue but it was worth it to be overdue than to trust it to some quick change place.  I just don't trust others to work on my stuff if I have the ability to do it myself.

Not to purposely embarrass the girls but they just do not like to take showers everyday, well except for Summer.  She would take 3 a day if I let her.  Since we have used bug spray several times and them refusing to take a shower and wash it off I'm sure their sheets were getting gross.  They also don't use a top sheet either so I'm sure the blankets were equally gross.   I had already washed my sheets once after the bear spray incident because I could feel some burn climbing into bed a day after despite extensive showering.

We risked taking advantage of the generosity to free access to the washer and dryers and cleaned everything.  I know I appreciate clean sheets so I hope the girls do as well because we did at least 4 loads today and 3 last night.  At most camp grounds a wash and dry can be upwards of $10.

Today was also a good time to stock up on grocery's. We had a few needs and several wants.  Libby joined me and we took the 20 minute drive into Soldotna.  We should have not went over lunch as we were both starving and bought way too much.  We also needed a refill of Alaskan beer.  $350 lighter and we were finally leaving.

One of the wants was ingredients for banana bread.  I bought banana's several days ago and they were not as popular as the apples have been so they were perfect for bread.  Kelly let us use her kitchen and tins.  She had mini loaf pans so Heidi, with the help of their grandkids made the banana bread.  I'm not sure who had more fun, Heidi or the girls.  An hour later we had three mini loafs and one medium.  All the kids dug in once they were finally cool enough to eat.

Heidi and the girls went back to the camper to get prepared to leave while I hung out in the house waiting for the laundry to finish.  It was a good opportunity to get caught up with the blog as I was several days behind due to being in Barrow.

We got all packed up and went on the hunt for Summer.  We did not see her most of the day as she has been attached to the hip to Ailynn, her new bestie.  As we were pulling out today she asked when we can come back to visit so they can play.

It was a quick drive down to Homer.  I filled up the truck before we got out of town and glad I did as gas is around $4.30 a gallon in Homer.  It has been somewhat consistent at $3.70 everywhere else in Alaska.  Truthfully I expected closer to $5 a gallon.

Driving into Homer we were greeted with more Alaskan beauty.  There are mountains not far off the spit.  Unfortunately it is overcast here as well.  We are in a campground about halfway down the spit.  I lucked out and got a beach site.  No pictures as it started to drizzle and I was getting cold.  In fact I might be coming down with a cold.  I have a scratchy throat, flushed and a headache.  I think tonight is a good night for everyone to go to bed early.  I don't want anyone feeling crappy when we go halibut fishing on Monday.

Destruction Bay Redux

I alluded to a bit of a mishap when we boondocked near Destruction.  At the time I just wanted to put it behind me.  I was not sure I wante...
