Day 24- Kasilof

 July 5

Heidi had been having trouble with her phone since we got back to Anchorage.  It was stuck on SOS and wouldn't get a cellular connection.  She also realized that she lost her drivers license.  I tried everything I could think of to fix her phone.  We also called the restaurant we were at last night as well as fill out a lost item form with Alaska Airlines.

Instead of leaving town we went to an AT&T store.  I thought one or the other bought T-Mobile so thought maybe they could help.  It was a significant wait though so we decided to take off.  Heidi called tech support and we finally got things straightened out.  She also got ahold of her kids and having her passport mailed up here.

The trip out of Anchorage heading to the Kenai peninsula was beautiful. It's hard to pick the most scenic area, we have seen so many amazing sights.  If it wasn't so overcast, this might have been the best.  Maybe on the way back the weather will be better.

Traffic was bumper to bumper although it flowed smoothly.  We had planned at stopping at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center.  They rescue animals that would not survive in the wild for whatever reason.  It was very busy.  It was a top notch facility but after seeing all the same animals in the wild I was a little underwhelmed.  It was a nice spot to stop and make a lunch though.

We got back on the road and before to long we entered the peninsula.  You could see the remnants of a huge fire in the Cooper's Creek area.  It happened 5 years ago and all that had returned was ground cover.

It's prime Salmon fishing in the area and as we passed over the Kasilof river the banks were full of people fishing.

We finally pulled into our friend's resort, P&K Angler's Retreat.  It's a cute little resort with a half dozen  RV spots and 4 cabin's.  We set up next to there house, it used to be a small cabin that they converted to be better used for full time living.  It overlooks a lower area with a stream running through it.  So peaceful.

Patrick was grilling up some moose burgers and salmon.  I didn't tell the girls what the hamburgers were made out of as I didn't want them to instantly say no.  The salmon was fantastic.  Not much of a fan of the moose.  It was a drier meat.  Have having juicy burgers from Iowa beef, it kind of ruins everything else.

After we did some laundry while the girls made a cake for Jen's birthday.  We did our traditional confetti/color cannon's.

Patrick and Kelly have 3 grandkids close to my girls age's.  Summer and one of them have become instant friends and have been nearly inseparable since we got here.  Probably doesn't hurt they have a trampoline to hang out on.
