Today was to be a shorter day but we expected more stops.  We planed to stop at the Tlingit Heritage Center but it had been closed all week for some reason.

When we had stopped at the Watson Lake visitor center yesterday she recommended we cut over to Carcross.  It was a good recommendation.   Right on the river they had a little area with tiny shops.  We of course spent way too much money.  They also had a beach we quickly visited.  We of course stopped at the visitor center as each one in the Yukon has it’s own collectable sticker.

A mile or so up the road is the worlds smallest desert.  When the glaciers pushed though they carried large amounts of sand.  When they receded all that sand was left in the river.  Over time that sand was pushed by the wind collecting in that area creating the desert.

On the way to Carcross we came across two Grizzly bears.  I did not expect to see Grizzly’s on this trip.

After Carcross we drove through Whitehorse only stopping for gas and groceries.  We will pass through and stay a couple days on our way back.

We continued on to Haines Junction.  We only stopped at the visitor’s center for a quick bathroom break and to collect our sticker.

Our overnight was Destruction Bay.  We didn’t have anywhere specific to stay.  On the Facebook group I follow several people said you could pull off and camp on the shoreline of Kluane Lake.

It was beautiful, Summer was in rock heaven.  Davan went for a walk along the beach and Libby made a Carrion after seeing them the last several days along the road.

Tomorrow is Tok.  I’m a little worried as the road is pretty bad the entire distance.  Lots of frost heaves and potholes.   It will be slow going.  Hopefully the broken wall does not get worse.
