Day 9- Teslin, YK

 June 20

652km/405 miles

11 hr, 45 min drive time

197L/52 gallons of gas

All includes travel to Liard Hot Springs and other side trips while in Muncho

Another great day weather wise.  It got to 78 degrees today but felt like 98.

Our first stop of the day was the welcome sign for the Yukon.  They also had a divider that Libby needed a picture of because she claimed it was the only proof of her being in two places at once!  These girls must have gotten their wit from Jen cause that's something I would have thought of 5 days later.

Our next stop of the day was Watson Lake where we visited the Sign Post Forest.  It was started in 1942 and is estimated to have over 100,000 signs.  I should have researched it before we left.  I didn't know we could leave our own sign.  I would have had one made.   After mentioning to the lady at the visitors center that someone could make a killing by having a sign making business she mentioned that the hardware store had precut boards for sale and she had a selection of paints and markers, as well as nails and hammers.   The girls and I of course made a sign and hung it up.  Poor Summer, she always underestimates how big she's writing in relation to the space available and she didn't have room for the R in her name.

We also stopped at Rancheria Falls for a quick hike back to see them.

We made it to Teslin about 6:30.  Got set-up and had a nice dinner at the restaurant on site.  Not much else to do here so we just relaxed a bit and everyone headed to bed while I write this and plan our stops for tomorrow.

We hit the jackpot on animal sightings today!  Shortly after we left this morning we finally saw some Wood Buffalo.  Not just one, but a whole herd, with young!  We were all excited to see them after seeing warning signs for the last few days.  They are protected and only about 300 left so we were not sure if we would see them of not.

Also we saw another bear, but not just any old bear.  She had two little cubs with her.  They couldn't have been more than a few months old the way they were stumbling around and acting goofy.

Tomorrow nights overnight is Destruction Bay.

Destruction Bay Redux

I alluded to a bit of a mishap when we boondocked near Destruction.  At the time I just wanted to put it behind me.  I was not sure I wante...
