Stayed at Northern Rockies Lodge
Our first major stop of the day was Fort Nelson. There was a forest fire all around the town about a month ago. It was surreal driving the highway seeing the charred forest. In some area you could still smell it.
While in Fort Nelson we stopped at the visitors center and the Fort Nelson Heritage Museum. It was pretty good and gave a glimpse of how the area was over the last century.
After Fort Nelson we entered the Northern Rockies. The views of the snow capped mountains were amazing. We finally saw some wildlife! In one spot we saw two bears separated by a drainage pipe. In another a momma bear and a cub. There was no good spot to pull over and I was disappointed we couldn't stop and get photo's with my camera.
We also finally saw a moose as well! I stopped well before we got to it for a chance to take pictures of it. Unfortunately it walked back into the woods before I could get the camera set-up.
Despite many signs to watch out for mountain buffalo and stone sheep, we saw neither. Much disappointment. We did nee a deer though.
