July 15
Our last day with our friends in Kasilof. We all had such a great time we were bummed to have to pack up to go.
The girls got things cleaned up in the camper while I did the outside stuff. It was also the only good day weather wise to fly the drone so I did a little of that and got some video of the area.
Around noon Kelly mentioned she was taking her grandkids to the Kasilof Museum. It was a really great place. The main building was centered around the people that lived int he areas from roughly 1000 years ago to today.
Out side was buildings saved from some of the first settlers from the area. Canning and Fox Farms were the major industries in the area at the beginning for the 1900's. Salmon was caught and canned of course and Foxes were raised for their fur which was fashionable at the time. The buildings were well preserved and had a lot of interesting information talking about them.
After we got back we all bought some souvenirs from the gift shop. I got the truck and camper hooked up and it was time for our goodbyes.
The drive to Seward was uneventful but breathtaking. The last hour was on a small single lane road lined with trees on each side. Before long we were back in the mountains. Before long we were at the KOA we are staying at. Again we have great fews, on the other side of the road is a river and a mountain.
After we got set up we headed out to dinner. We went to the Highliner Restaurant. Every restaurant I looked up had a menu that was seafood based and this was no exception. It did have a little broader menu though so there was choices for everyone. It got 5 thumbs up which is really difficult to find a place that all three girls can find something to eat without complaint. It was not cheap though. Wow Over $200 after tip. And compared to other places I looked at, probably the cheapest. This will probably be our only meal out while in Seward.
After we drove through the downtown area as well as by the harbor. This is also where the city campground is. While being camped on the the waters edge with a mountain view would have been nice, the spots are super tight. Like you can't even roll out your awning without hitting the camper next to you tight. And I don't think there was enough space between rows to back in with a camper as long as mine. Made me glad I didn't book a space even though they were available.
On our way back was a sign for Exit Glacier less than 10 miles up the road so we decided to check it out. At the end of the road is a visitors center and a trail that leads to the glacier. There are many stops along the way leading all the way to the top. I'm hoping that we can do the path that leads to the bottom of the glacier. It's supposed to be relatively easy and roughly 2 hours round trip.
Tomorrow is our whale watching cruise and everyone is really excited for it.
